DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PARTS CERTIFICATE & ABE

The difference between a parts certificate and an ABE is that an ABE may NOT require TÜV registration (although this depends on the vehicle and the tyre sizes used). If conditions such as "reworking" or similar must be observed, wheels with an ABE must also be registered. In the case of parts certificates, the wheels must always be registered, even if no conditions have to be met.  The advantage of the parts certificate is that it is available much more quickly (especially for new cars) than a complete ABE update.

ECE

In contrast to the ABE, the ECE is an international approval that is recognised by many countries worldwide. The approval number for wheels is R124.  With the ECE, the size, width, bolt circle, offset (ET) and hub bore are identical to the original rim from the respective manufacturer. These are prerequisites for approval. Other aspects such as the center cap, wheel load capacity, the wheel mounting on the vehicle and ensuring that all of the manufacturer's brakes fit are not included in the ECE regulation. The ECE requirements in the respective appendix must also always be checked in advance.

COC-DOCUMENTS:

The CoC document must be attached to every vehicle that corresponds to the approved type: It must therefore be handed over when a new car is purchased. The manufacturer uses it to prove that the car complies with EU standards, i.e. that it has EU type approval. CoC is the abbreviation for "Certificate of Conformity".

German CoCs usually say "EG-Übereinstimmungsbescheinigung", in other countries the document is written in the respective national language. (source ADAC)

SNOW CHAINS

In principle, a snow chain can be fitted to any BORBET wheel. The usability can be found in the respective expert opinion and depends on the vehicle, wheel and tyre size.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here you'll find answers to everything you ever wanted to know about our stylish alloy wheels - from choosing the perfect wheel to the technical details.

Am I allowed to drive larger wheels on my vehicle than are registered in the COC papers?

Yes, whether this combination of wheel and tyre subsequently requires additional registration by a testing organisation ultimately depends on whether a parts certificate or an ABE exists for it.

What is meant by "offset?"

The offset is the distance between the centre of the wheel and the wheel contact surface. It determines how far inwards or outwards a wheel is positioned.

What does a KBA number mean?

The KBA number is a number issued by the Federal Motor Transport Authority for all parts authorised for use on German roads. BORBET wheels always have a KBA number moulded in near the valve hole, visible from the outside.

It guarantees that the part is a so-called "series-manufactured part", which guarantees TÜV registrations even after many years.

It is also the basis for the ABE. Only if this is available is it possible to drive wheels without separate registration by the TÜV.

Do I have to pay attention to anything with wheels for motorhomes?

We also have wheels for motorhomes, campers and vans in our range. These rims are particularly impressive due to their robustness and high wheel loads .Discover the complete BORBET range here:
