PROGRESS IN THE MULTIPLE SPRUE CASTING PROCESS THROUGH SMART CASTING

In the foundry, the basic low-pressure casting process is constantly being developed further, for example through different cooling technologies or optimised sprue processes. These further developments make it possible to cast complex rims that could not be realised using the classic low-pressure casting process alone. Our standard low-pressure casting production is designed for up to 22 inches; individual production sites are or will be designed for 24 inches.

THE PROCEDURE

BORBET Smart Casting is a process in which a mould with multiple injections is used.


Among other things, Smart Casting offers the advantage of thinner spokes in combination with a generally improved microstructure. The technology makes it possible to cast complex wheels that could not be realised with the classic low-pressure casting process.

IMPACT ON THE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT
Smart casting also offers a number of advantages in terms of sustainability. On the one hand, less energy is required during production, as less material has to be used for these lighter wheels. This helps to reduce the ecological footprint.

In addition, the lighter wheels lead to lower energy consumption during the use of the car, as less energy is required to keep the vehicle in motion. Overall, Smart Casting therefore helps to reduce the environmental impact both in the manufacturing phase and during operation.
